What do you love most about being a court reporter or being in the court reporting industry?
Every day is different, and over the years I’ve learned a little bit about so many different things. I love the technology and the challenges and personal growth it has brought me over the years. And it’s never ending! Things are always changing.
Given what you’ve seen in the last ten years, where do you think the court reporting industry is heading?
More remote proceedings, either telephonic or via VC, not only in the freelance world but in the courts as well.
What is your most memorable court reporting moment?
I was asked to provide realtime in a binding arbitration case in the ‘90s. I had not taken any of the depos, though our office had. I was not a realtime writer by any means at that time, but I agreed to do it (I never have learned how to say no!). The word “section” translated to “sex” more times than I care to remember.
It was very stressful, but I stuck with it. At the end of the arbitration, even though the realtime, in my mind, was very poor, the parties presented me with a beautiful bouquet. They appreciated the realtime feed and my efforts very much.
